Job Description

We are looking for an Editorial and Communications Assistant to join the team of a prestigious scientific society based in central London. This role will be to support the Managing Editor in overseeing the publication process of the monthly journal.This role would suit an entry level candidate with some admin experience and proven interest in working in publishing.


Key duties:

  • Manage the online manuscript submission system, assisting from submission to production
  • Responsible for quality control checks of new submissions and running reports
  • Coordinate messages to authors and reviewers, responsible for the journals submission inbox
  • Facilitate monthly author interviews
  • Maintain, plan and coordinate social media and online content
  • Promote and extend the reach of articles to increase engagement levels
  • Coordinate actions from Editorial Board meetings and liaise with the communications team
  • Support editors and provide cover for editorial tasks during periods of absence
  • Attend meetings where required

Experience / skills required:

  • Some admin or editorial experience within STM publishing environment is an advantage
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent, ideally in a scientific discipline
  • Ability to work under pressure, prioritise workload and problem-solve
  • Experience in overseeing organisational social media activity (desirable)
  • High level of IT skills including Microsoft Office
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
