Job Description

We have a Managing Editor role at a prestigious scientific society in central London.  You will be responsible for the management, coordination and preparation of content for the journal as well as line managing a team of two. 

Key duties:

  • Take responsibility for preparation and timely production of journal content
  • Management of Manuscript Editor and Editorial Assistant
  • Coordination of freelance editors: sending papers, checking edited papers, tracking expenditure
  • Significant copy-editing of articles and close liaison with authors throughout the editorial process
  • Commissioning and developing content in conjunction with the Editor
  • Coordination of the online manuscript submission system and liaison with the publisher to ensure timely production of papers
  • Oversight social media platforms and activities
  • Travel and attend meetings and events on behalf of the society

Experience / skills required:

  • Solid experience within an STM journal publishing environment, preferably medical publishing or female’s health
  • Degree or equivalent in a scientific will be advantageous
  • Strong editorial skills (substantive, redactory editing) and proof-reading experience
  • Good knowledge of publishing policies and standards
  • Experience with online manuscript submission system
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Solid IT skills including MS Office, Access or similar; internet skills
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet monthly deadlines using own initiative
