Job Description

A prestigious scientific charity based in central London is looking for a Production Designer to oversee the content and production of the charity’s publications and design support to the Publications Department. This is 6-month contract role and is a great opportunity for a motivated entry level candidate to break into journal publishing and develop their publishing skills.

Key duties:

  • Perform typesetting on the journals
  • Manage the author proofing and approval process
  • Prepare the production schedule and setting deadlines for contributors
  • Liaise with internal and external advertising customers
  • Prepare digital files for XML conversion and deliver to the external typesetters
  • Ensure all information on the publications sections are accurate on the website
  • Conduct picture research for the journals

Experience / skills required:

  • A sound working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, particularly InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and Acrobat
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a good eye for detail
  • Proven experience of typesetting in an academic or commercial environment
  • Good time management skills and strong IT skills
  • An interest in working in the not-for-profit sector
  • A knowledge of image copyright would be advantageous
