Sales Jobs in Publishing
The two main positions in sales are: Sales Representative and Sales Administrator.
Sales Representatives visit the client - whether it be bookstore, school, college, professional organisation - within allocated geographical areas and sell the new and backlist titles. The sales team, basically, have to persuade bookshops and other outlets to stock the books. In trade publishing a good sales representative will get a title positioned advantageously on the bookshelf or on the front display tables - all to grab attention and get the sales.
Sales Administrators support Sales Representatives by processing orders and ensuring that the Sales Representatives have the necessary selling tools - sales kits for each title, for example - to be as effective as possible.
Sales reps can either be employed full-time or work under contract to one or more publishing house.
