Professional Publishing
Professional publishing is the term used to describe those publishing companies producing books and journals specifically written for and marketed to professionals in a wide variety of industries - medicine, law, business, technology, science, and the humanities. Professional publishers see themselves foremost as information providers, and nowadays this type of information lends itself to online and digital publication. For example: traditionally, legal publications were extensive and very expensive to produce, so it made sense to publish on CD-Rom and eventually online, using a subscription business model for consumers to access the information as and when they required it.
Professional publishing is therefore one of the publishing markets that has optimised technological advances and either moved away from printed publications or used them alongside their online and digital publications.
A sub-division of Professional publishing is often referred to as STM-scientific, technical, and medical publishing.
