Educational publishing companies publish textbooks and educational curriculum materials for schools and colleges.

In addition to textbooks, educational publishing also covers all of the materials that complement the textbook-such as teachers' guides, workbooks, tests, software, CD-ROMs, interactive websites (multimedia learning tools) and maps.

Such materials are published for all levels of students, from foundation stage and reception class through to postgraduate students at university.

Educational publishing can be sub-divided as follows: "School" publishers publish textbooks and materials for foundation through to year 13 and "higher education" publishers publish for college and university students.
