A professional publisher of a leading range of publications for academics and professionals in the engineering and technology sector is looking to appoint a Portfolio Development Manager. You will be responsible for commissioning high profile titles for a new arm of their business. Their offices are based a short commute from London or Cambridge. This is the perfect role for a very experienced, energetic, highly commercial individual keen to make their mark.
Key duties:
· Research new topic areas and assess commercial opportunities for new products and services
· Commission standards and associated guidelines, codes of practice and other publications
· Represent the company at events and conferences
· Conduct quantitative and qualitative market research
· Translate market opportunities into commercially viable business cases
· Manage the publication process from concept development to full launch
Experience / skills required:
· A demonstrable track record in setting up successful multi-author publications is essential
· Or experience putting together and managing a journal editorial board
· Extensive experience of commissioning significant scientific, technical or business information products and a good knowledge of technical trends in these areas
· An ability to engage and work with high profile senior stakeholders and achieve consensus on complex problems
· An enthusiasm for heavy industrial topics (engineering, electronics, transport, energy, built environment)
· Strong understanding of web technologies and online platforms
· Exceptional communicator and negotiator with strong presentational skills
· Project management training is useful
