Job Description

An exciting opportunity for an Editor to join a newly-created team at a prestigious publisher of medical journals to assist with the launch of a new journal.  This is a senior appointment with responsibility for editorial strategy on the launch of a new specialty monthly research and review journal.

 

Key duties:

·          Overall responsibility for editorial strategy and launch of a new specialty monthly research and review journal (print and online)

·          Oversee the content and timely production of twelve print issues a year plus extra online content as needed

·          Commission content as necessary (including original research articles together with reviews, editorials, and news)

·          Budget and monitor expenditure and income for the journal

·          Develop and maintain links with the international diabetes and endocrinology community to solicit high-quality research, especially clinical trials, for the journal

·          Recruitment, training, and development of a Deputy Editor and Senior Editor

·          Manage all editorial aspects of the journal, including peer review, commissioning and writing

·          Attend conferences and events and develop and maintain contacts within the medical community

 

Experience / skills required:

·          PhD / MD (or equivalent) in a directly relevant discipline (such as diabetes, endocrinology, thyroid/parathyroid disorders, hypothalamic/pituitary disorders, lipid disorders, obesity)

·          Must be a subject expert who can shape the journal into a forum for publishing the most relevant and practice-changing research

·          Substantial post-doc research experience or clinical experience

·          Solid understanding of all aspects of the editorial process, journal production, and of running an editorial team

·          Experience of launching a new journal would be an advantage
